Legal definition for licensing – Security Technician
Locksmiths interpret the designs and technical instructions of Security Consultants, or Design Engineers, and ensure they are accurately carried out. They also develop, install, test and maintain locks, security equipment and systems used to protect people, property, assets and information.

Duties
- Understand and follow plans and instructions for locks, security equipment and systems
- Install, repair, test and maintain locks, security equipment and systems under supervision
- Record data on testing techniques, equipment, and other work under supervision
- Report findings and results to colleagues
- Identify materials needed for new work projects
- Ensure health and safety requirements are followed
- Performing other duties as directed
Role Requirements
- Must be 18+ years old
- Must have normal colour vision (electrical components are normally colour coded)
- Must be confident and capable of working under supervision
- Accurate and methodical
- Must have reasonable fitness
- Must have a clean criminal record
- Preferable to hold a NZ Drivers Licence
- Must have good written and spoken English
- Able to work well under pressure

Working Conditions
- Usually work regular business hours but may have to be on call or irregular hours

- May be required to access confined spaces when laying wiring
Industry Training
- NZCiES Level 3 and 4 (New Zealand Certificate in Electronic Security)

Indicative Pay Scales
- Entry level – $70,000 to $80,000
- Mid-level – $80,000 to $100,000 plus vehicle
- High level – $100,000 to $110,000 plus vehicle
